Dr. Paul Potter is Professor of Communication with emphasis in Mass Media and in General Communication studies for Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, Texas.  He is a graduate of North Texas State University (now the University of North Texas) where he earned a Ph.D. in College Teaching (higher education) with a teaching field of Speech Communication and Drama.  He completed a Master of Fine Arts and Bachelor of Fine Arts in Broadcast Film Arts at Southern Methodist University.  Dr. Potter also studied with the late Ben Bard, New Talent Director for 20th Century Fox Motion Pictures.  Prior to his appointment at HSU, he held the endowed James Pedas Professor of Communication Chair at Thiel College in Western Pennsylvania.  Also, he has served as Executive Director of a church leadership training program in Tennessee; Administrative Pastor for Door of Hope Church in Fairbanks, Alaska; Director of Administration and Operations for a church camp and retreat center in Alaska; and a number of positions in academic teaching and administration for universities in Texas, Oklahoma, and Ohio.

After nearly a decade of being a disc jockey, announcer, news reporter, program director, producer, director, writer, editor, in radio, television and being talent in film, Dr. Potter returned to school to develop his skills as an educator in broadcasting, film, and speech communication.  He has professional production credits with Warner Cable TV, ABC television and radio, NBC radio, and the Baptist Radio TV Commission.  Dr. Potter is ordained as a minister.
